The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens

The Mystical Adventures of Billy Owens is a 2008 Canadian fantasy film which takes place in Spirit River, Alberta Canada about a boy who discovers on his 11th birthday that he is capable of using magic and must save his town from destruction. This film was presented in two parts under a "To Be Continued" format, with a sequel; Billy Owens and the Secret of the Runes which followed in 2010. Both films were panned for both its poor quality and special effects, plus several likenesses to the more popular film and book series of Harry Potter, which also featured three best friends of similar personalities. The main character having been given his power at the age of 11, and which the first sequel was similarly titled Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Plot

Narrated by Mandy (Ciara O'Hanlon), as she tells the story of her friend Billy Owens (Dalton Mugridge) an average boy who has just turned 11. But notes the strangeness of him being born at the stroke of 11 on October 11 which is later discovered to be a number of great power. Billy, along with know-it-all Mandy and their cowardly but loyal best friend Kurt (Jordan Goulet) discover that Billy's family has magical origins, and upon a chance encounter with a mysterious shop keeper (Roddy Piper) who Billy buys a wand from for $11, they also find out that he can use the wand to cast magic spells, and together they embark on a journey to save their town of Spirit River from a foretold prophecy and prevent the resurrection of a dragon under the influence of the ancient viking trickster God Loki.

• Dalton Mugridge - Billy Owens, an 11 year old boy who discovers he is a wizard capable of performing spells from a magic wand he bought.
• Ciara O'Hanlon - Mandy Finch, Billy's know-it-all friend who is constantly annoying others with her knowledge of facts, town history and statistical odds of various happenings.
• Christopher Fazio - Devon Turner, Billy's cowardly but loyal best friend. He spends much of his time complaining about the trouble the three of them are getting into and is most concerned with keeping Billy's secret.
• Jennifer Pearson - Katherine Owens, Billy's mysterious mother.
• Jenny Elliott - Principal Gwendolyn Cups, a kind school principal with several secrets of her own.
• Jordan Goulet - Kurt Nemees, Billy's classmate and a bully constantly tormenting Billy, eventually revealing himself to be a wizard as well.
• Roddy Piper - William Thurgood, a mysterious shop keeper who sells Billy his wand for $11 on his 11th Birthday which happens to fall on the 11th month. He turns out to be an incredibly powerful wizard who trains Billy and his friends to combat a great evil threatening the town.
• Paul Germs - Victor Mould, a teacher of Billy's but also a powerful dark wizard who seeks to use the power of Loki's dragon to destroy Spirit River.
• Bob Mugridge - William Owens, Billy's kind and somewhat laid back father.
